Lukas Gage Isn't Getting Enough Attention. So He's Written a Memoir
READ TIME: 7 MIN.
Lukas Gage is the first to admit he craves attention. Now the 29-year old actor has written a book to prove it.
"The White Lotus" actor shared with media outlets the cover of his autobiography "I Wrote This for Attention" that will be published by Simon & Schuster in the fall, as well as a synopsis.
"The book was inspired, in part, during a particularly difficult week in Gage's life, reads the memoir's synopsis. As his grandmother lay dying, Gage sat next to his father, who was largely absent throughout his childhood, scrolling through his phone," reads a People Magazine report.
What he learned was that people were calling him "an attention whore." And, according to the synopsis, Lukas agreed. "Lukas Gage was no stranger to going viral. He loved attention. As a toddler, he set his room on fire. As a child, he hugged and flirted with women at Hooters to his father's delight. As a teen, he stole handles of alcohol and cherry cough syrup. He had sex at a restroom in Chili's, and fell hopelessly in love with a girl who wore an ankle monitor. He became an actor and filmed that scene in 'White Lotus' (if you know, you know). Lukas was scared of attention and yet he craved it more than anything in the world."
The book details his upbringing growing up in a San Diego suburb with his single mom and three older brothers. It promises to include "struggles with addiction, sex, borderline personality disorder–and his commitment to being the center of attention at all times, even as he actually becomes a star."
He first gained attention when he his apartment was called out by a director interviewing him for a job on a Zoom call. Gage wasn't suppose to hear the comment, but when he did, he came back with: "I know it's a shitty apartment. That's why give me this job so I can get a better one." The director Tristram Shapeero was mortified that his mute button was off and later apologized to Gage, but he didn't get the job.
His break-out role came on the first season of "The White Lotus" when he played the randy assistant to hotel manager Murray Bartlett. When Bartlett was caught with his tongue firmly placed in Gage's butthole, a meme was born and a star was born. The young actor furthered his celebrity by becoming an advocate for rimming on an appearance of Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live."
He went on to appear on the series "Euphoria," "Fargo," "Dead Boy Detectives," and Netflix's "You;" and such films as Daniel Goldhaber's "How to Blow Up a Pipeline," the remake of "Road House," and recent horror hit "Smile 2." He co-starred opposite Zachary Quinto and Simon Rex in "Down Low," which he co-wrote; and in the upcoming, highly anticipated "Rosebush Pruning."
