Chris Hemsworth Put a Sock on It for 'Thor' Nude Scene

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Chris Hemsworth realized a dream (and perhaps some of his fans' as well) when he filmed a nude scene for the upcoming "Thor: Love and Thunder."

"It was 10 years in the making that scene – kind of a dream of mine," Hemsworth told Variety during Thursday's "Thor: Love and Thunder" premiere at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. "The first time I played Thor I took my shirt off and I thought, 'You know what's gonna sweeten this... a decade from now it's all gonna come off."

"I feel like we had all talked about it," director Taika Waititi told Variety. "We had talked about, 'Yeah, we gotta show off this body.' My whole thing was like, Chris works so hard, you've gotta show it off. Don't cover it up with all these suits and the cape and stuff, it's not fair!"

The Daily Mail reported that on the talk show "The Project," the 38-year-old actor explained how he got encouragement from costar Russell Crowe.

"He does a great thing where he's also naked from the waist down. That made me feel at ease," Hemsworth said.

Waititi said that it was a group effort. "On set, it's an agreement we have. I was naked too."

Asked if a "modesty shelf" was involved, Hemsworth said there was, but corrected the moderator by calling it a "sock."

And even though he appeared naked in a film before, he was surprised when he saw the "Thor" footage.

"Well, I had [my butt] out in [2013 film] 'Rush' many years ago, but in a Marvel film, it was a very large screen, it was a very big pair of cheeks."

"Love and Thunder," the fourth "Thor" movie, comes to theaters on July 8 in the United States.
