'Don't Say Gay' Sponsor's Home Hit by Tornado

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Florida lawmaker Joe Harding's Ocala home was among those damaged by severe weather in Central Florida Saturday, reports the website Florida Politics. The Ocala Republican was not at home, though family was. No one was injured.

Harding introduced H.B. 1557, dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" bill, that passed the Florida legislature last week and is waiting for signing by Governor Ron DeSantis, who has repeatedly expressed his support.

"A meteorologist at theNational Weather Servicein Jacksonville said Sunday thatthe strong stormthat passed through Marion Countyon Saturday, rippingapart everything in its path, was an EF-1tornado with maximum sustained wind speed of 110 mph," reports the Ocola Star Banner.

Harding said a possible tornado touched down in his Ocala neighborhood. His next-door neighbor's home was severely damaged and seven of 10 homes in the neighborhood suffered "catastrophic damage," he said.

Twitter responded to Harding with snark:

"I'm old enough to remember when Christians were certain storms were a sign of God's judgment. "Don't Say Gay" Author's home struck by a tornado," wrote user kenny ANTIFA jacobs (@kennyjacobs)

Raymond-19 (@RaymondEdwardF) added: "God sent an F-U tornado to punish Joe Harding's homophobia with homelessness. The tornado took his home, his eyebrows, and created a fabulous rainbow that Joe did not appreciate."

mwy (@wreddpepper) posted an animated gif that said: "Karma Got You!"

And Twitter user zoë!! (@reputationkurt) posted: "imagine writing a bigoted amendment to a bigoted bill that would require schools to out students to their parents and then having your house DAMAGED BY A FUCKING TORNADO IN FLORIDA. if that's not a sign you're in the wrong idk what is"
