Watch: Spanish Doctor, COVID-19 Survivor Named New Mr. Gay World

Spanish doctor Fran Alvarado was named Mr. Gay World, it was announced in a video today, "Oh, my God. I really am?" said Alvarado upon hearing the announcement.

Alvarado lives in Madrid and was runner-up in the competition last year. "But when this year" s="" contest="" was="" postponed="" to="" 2021="" because="" of="" lockdown,="" he="" took="" over="" the="" title="" -="" weeks="" after="" recovering="" from="" COVID-19,"="" .

"I got infected at the beginning (in) March. All mild symptoms, fortunately," he explains in the video. "It has been really hard because we have seen a lot of patients very, very ill and very fast. Now it's getting better. I hope that it finishes soon please."

In his video, he also talks about LGBTQ activism, body issues with growing older and issues with being bullying in grade school.

"It was hard for me when I was a child. I didn't know anybody else like me. In the primary school they use to call me 'faggot', faggot' because I liked to play with girls," he said.
