EDGE Rewind: 'Elité' Hottie Manu Ríos Just Landed A Role in Upcoming Queer Cowboy Film
EDGE is reaching into its archive and sharing some of our favorite stories from the past.
"Elité" hottie Manu Ríos is set to journey west after landing a role in Pedro Almodovar's upcoming gay cowboy flick.
As reported by Gayety, details surrounding the movie are slim bu Almodovar describes the film as an "answer to 'Brokeback Mountain.'"
About "Brokeback Mountain," Almodovar says that he thinks "Ang Lee made a wonderful movie." However, he reportedly turned down the job to direct the film because he "never believed that they would give me complete freedom and independence to make what I wanted."
Adding Ríos to a cast that includes Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, Almodovar's film will be a 30-minute short that also focuses on the complicated relationship between two men on the frontier.
"After twenty-five years, Silva (Pascal) rides a horse across the desert to visit his friend Sheriff Jake (Hawke). They celebrate the meeting, but the next morning Jake tells him that reason for his trip is not to go down the memory lane of their friendship," reads the film's description.
"There will be a showdown between them, but really the story is very intimate," Almodovar revealed.
The film is expected to begin production in Spain later this summer. Whether Ríos will play an outlaw or a man-sel (see what we did there?) in distress remains to be seen. But we know that he looks darn good in a cowboy hat.
